Fire destroys residence
On June 22 at 4:45 a.m., police received a report of a fire on the Bonaparte Reserve, at a residence on Church Road. Police were able to get assistance from the Cache Creek Volunteer Fire Department to contain the blaze, which was spreading. The residence was completely engulfed and destroyed, but the fire was suppressed by the efforts of the Cache Creek firefighters, who set up a fire block that prevented the fire from spreading. No other buildings were damaged. The male occupant of the house escaped without injury, while a female occupant sustained a shoulder injury. The cause of the fire is suspected to be a candle that was left burning and then tipped over.
Endeering neighbour
At noon on June 23, police received a call about an injured deer in the back yard of a Cache Creek residence. While police were en route they received a call saying that deer no longer appeared to be injured. The caller had also been informed by a neighbour that the deer in question had been hanging around people’s yards and was a common sight in Cache Creek; so much so that some people treated it almost like a pet. A conservation officer was advised of the situation.
Lost purse
On June 24 at 5:30 p.m., police received a report of a lost purse. An Ashcroft resident called to say that while running errands earlier in the day she may have left her purse at one of several Ashcroft businesses. She had checked with the businesses, but it had not been turned in. The purse is described as “ratty”, and light beige in colour. Anyone who has any knowledge of the matter is asked to call the Ashcroft RCMP, or drop the purse off at the detachment.
