Ashcroft RCMP responded to 62 calls for service during the two week period November 1 to 15.
Traffic crashes
On November 3, 7, and 8 there were traffic crashes on highway 97 north of Cache Creek.
Assault with a weapon
As a result of an incident on November 10, police are recommending charges of uttering threats, assault with a weapon, and possession of a dangerous weapon against one male due to an incident in Cache Creek. A knife was seized. The name is not being released until the charge is approved by Crown Counsel.
Noise complaint
On November 10 at approximately 11:15 p.m. police were called to the vacant apartments on Tingley Street in Ashcroft due to a report of approximately 20 youths being in the area, partying and causing noise. Police were at a high priority call and were not able to attend until later, when the noise and youths were gone.
Parents are reminded to have conversations with their youths about the dangers of these vacant properties. Using them is trespassing, and charges can be laid if people are located on the premises.
Drug seizure
On November 11 police conducted a traffic stop that resulted in a small drug seizure. An unidentified/unlabelled bottle containing various prescription-type pills and marihuana was located in the vehicle. Please note that if you have a prescription, the pills should stay in the labelled bottle so that police know that the name on the bottle and the person in possession of the prescription are the same, otherwise the pills can be seized. No charges were laid.
Vehicle break-in
On November 11 a parked vehicle was broken into at the Sandman Motel in Cache Creek. Nothing of note was taken; however, the passenger-side window was broken. This was thought to have occurred between 1 and 2 a.m., when the occupant of the motel heard the crash sound.
Charges recommended
On November 13 police recommended charges against a driver of a vehicle; the driver did not possess a driver’s licence and had been prohibited from driving under the Criminal Code Canada Wide. The name is being withheld until charge approval from Crown Counsel.
Scooter accident
On November 14 there was an accident between a scooter and a parked vehicle that resulted in minor injuries to the scooter operator. Scooter operators are reminded to use caution when using their devices, and be aware that bulkier clothing can get caught on throttles or other control devices on the scooter.
Shots heard complaint
There was a complaint of shots heard in the area of 5320 E. Trans Canada Highway. Hunters are reminded to be aware of the legal distance allowed from highways and roadways as well as residences. Evidence located at the scene confirms a firearm was used in the area of this driveway.
Alleged assault
Police are investigating an allegation of assault with weapon that occurred on November 14 in Cache Creek. The incident occurred around 7:20 p.m. near the area of the Castle Inn.
Police seeking witnesses to come forward
On November 15 at approximately 12:15 p.m., a black SUV parked at the Chevron in Cache Creek backed into a small car parked behind it, causing significant damage to that car (orange in colour). The orange car was pushed over an embankment and into another parked vehicle in the Kal Tire parking lot, causing damage to that vehicle as well.
The black SUV left the scene of the accident southbound on Highway 1, and it is unclear if it went south or east. A white van was parked beside the black SUV, and video footage indicates that the passenger of that white van may have witnessed this incident. Another yellow car was behind the black SUV when it left the scene and may also have witnessed this event.
Police are hoping those persons will come forward and provide a statement with any details they can provide. Please call the Ashcroft detachment at (250) 453-2216 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) with information. Please reference file 2017-1530.
If you have any information on any police files or crimes, please contact the Ashcroft RCMP or Crime Stoppers at the numbers above.
