A former Langley school trustee has announced she will try for re-election in one of the two City board seats.
Candy Ashdown announced this week that she Will seek a second term, following her tenure from 2011 to 2014. She was defeated in the 2014 election.
“Our board made it a priority to repair broken relationships with partner groups and regain the trust the district had lost in the community,” Ashdown said of the her first three-year term. “Transparency and true public consultation were always at the forefront of our work.”
Continuing to improve the culture of the Langley school district is a priority, as well as ensuring all students have equal opportunities to access programs and resources, Ashdown said of her goals. The need to manage space in a rapidly growing district is also an issue.
“We are seeing tremendous growth in the Township, specifically in the Willoughby Heights area,” Ashdown said. “We are now going to be experiencing much growth in Langley City as well with new developments underway or being approved. We need strong advocates at the Board table representing both City and Township students.”
A longtime Langley resident, Ashdown was also a Langley City committee member and District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) executive member.
