A Vernon company is in the running to be one of B.C.’s top small businesses.

Aspenware is one of five firms in the best green business category in the Small Business B.C. Awards. It produces compostable wooden utensils.

The other companies in the category are all from Vancouver —  Eclipse Awards, Green Chair Recycling, Natural Pod and Watertiger.

The Small Business B.C. Awards celebrate entrepreneurs in eight award categories.

“This is an opportunity to acknowledge the exceptionally talented, creative and passionate entrepreneurs in our province,” said George Hunter, Small Business B.C. CEO.

“It’s a platform for entrepreneurs in every stage of business to showcase the impact they’re having on their communities and the contributions they’re making to the economy. We’re proud to bring awareness to those businesses and to celebrate the dedicated entrepreneurs who built them.”

The companies will face a panel of judges in early February to convince them why they should be named the top businesses in B.C. The winners will be announced Feb. 27.
