Assault suspect taken to hospital after ‘coming into contact with police car’ during arrest

Witnesses sought after assault with weapon in Victoria

Major crime detectives are looking for witnesses after an assault with a weapon that occurred in Victoria last weekend.

The Victoria Police Communication Centre began receiving 9-1-1 calls just after midnight on Dec. 15 when somebody was assaulted with a weapon in the area of Douglas and View streets.

Multiple officers attended the area and a man was subsequently taken into custody at the intersection of Fort and Government streets.

During the course of the arrest, the suspect came into contact with a police vehicle. The suspect was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was later released.

After speaking with witnesses, major crime detectives believe that they have not yet spoken with all the people who witnessed the incident.
