Over a dozen young athletes from the Saanich Peninsula competed at the recent B.C. Summer Games in Nanaimo, many of them bringing home medals in various events.

Nick Murray, Jack Isherwood and Rory Passmore brought home bronze in box lacrosse, as did Victoria Renning in girls softball and Maximilian Cunningham in doubles rowing (teammate Marshall Ewen-Holdom was from Nanaimo.)

Dawson Gordon, Will Johansen and Joshua Pickford brought home silver in field lacrosse and did Sofie Kennedy in girls rugby.

“There are many great stories from the [games],” said Diane Cunningham who went to the Games with her son, Maximilian.

“It was amazing to see the team of six athletes and two coaches gel and really connect through the sport. They had opportunities to meet and talk with Olympians and many great athletes.”

Others who competed at the Games include Chloe Scaber (fourth place in girls basketball), Fynn Heaney-Corns (11th in boys 400m freestyle swimming, and eighth in the boys 1500m free), Ben Sammons (fifth in boys pentathlon), Finn Battersby (eighth in the boys 1500m steeplechase) and Brennan Hopkins.
