Vanderhoof’s local RCMP detachment received 74 calls for service and lodged 12 prisoners in the past week.
Downtown collision
No life-threatening injuries were suffered at a motorcycle-SUV collision in downtown Vanderhoof on Aug. 8.
At 5 p.m., a westbound motorcycle was travelling on Highway 16 in the right-turn lane to Burrard Avenue when he continued straight, crashing into the passenger-side of an eastbound jeep turning left into Burrard Avenue.
The motorcycle’s Californian driver, was taken to the hospital for his injuries and the jeep’s driver, from Vanderhoof, is unscathed from the incident. Both were issued violations for their part in the collision, which was attended by officers from the RCMP’s general unit and traffic services.
The motorcycle suffered front-end damage while the jeep suffered body damage at the front-passenger side.
Mischief at Blackwater Project
Reported on Aug. 5, the gate to New Gold’s Blackwater Project on Ootsa Forest Service Road suffered damage from attempted break-in.
Unknown suspects moved the cement blocks that formed part of the gate, damaging the gate pin and lock in the process. The damage is estimated to value $3,000.
They also attempted, but failed, to enter nearby ATC trailers. Tracks left behind by the vehicle suggested that the suspects travelled in a pickup.

Dirt bike theft
In the evening of Aug. 8, a yellow 1996 Suzuki motorcycle was reported stolen from a residence on Fifth Avenue.

Morning drink and drive
On Aug. 11, a vehicle travelling erratically on Highway 16 by Burrard Avenue was stopped at 10 a.m.
Upon investigation, the driver was revealed to have consumed alcohol, and will be charged for impaired driving.
