Australian couple appeals to Hope residents “for a miracle”

Small engagement sapphire went missing around Hope's downtown core recently

Geoff and Janet Howe are “hoping for a miracle.”

The Australian couple was in Hope just recently, where they enjoyed some activities around the downtown core. But when they were here, they noticed something was missing — the small sapphire that is usually nestled in Janet’s engagement ring.

Now that they’re back home, they’re appealing to Hope residents who may know where the blue jewel may be.

“My wife and I recently had the pleasure of visiting your delightful town during a coach trip in B.C.,” Geoff wrote to the Hope Standard. “Alas, we lost the stone to her engagement ring sometime during our walk along the main street, visit to the supermarket and picnic in Memorial Park. Our coach was searched from top to bottom.”

The missing stone has a long history with the couple.

“It would mean a lot if anyone finds the small sapphire,” he added. “I gave the ring to my then girlfriend in Africa more than 40 years ago.

“Hoping for a miracle.”

The Hope Standard has the couple’s address if anyone has located the stone.
