The Canadian Avalanche Centre is issuing warning this week after heavy snows and high winds made for unstable snow packs in most of the province.
The Northern Rockies have not yet been rated at press time, but have wind slab effects on the south and west-facing slopes as well as persistent slab on all aspects.
Northwest B.C. is the only rated area left in the province with only considerable avalanche risk as of Friday, January 14 and low risk below the tree line in the Smithers and interior sections. The northwest also has wind slab and persistent slab on all aspects.
Anyone going into the backcountry should check for the latest conditions by visiting the Canadian Avalanche Centre website at: www.avalanche.ca/cac/bulletins
