The B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed the identities of two men who died in a scuba diving incident near Snake Island Friday.
The victims are Robert Scott Young, 60, of Olympia, Wash., and Harold John Burkholder, 38, of Kent, Wash.
Scott and Burkholder were attempting a deep technical dive in an area known as “the wall” at Snake Island, east of
Nanaimo Harbour, when something went wrong. Scott returned to the surface but collapsed shortly afterward and could not be resuscitated.
Burkholder did not return to the surface. His body was located and recovered Sunday at a depth of about 78 metres by a commercial diver who was assisting the RCMP.
The B.C. Coroners Service and RCMP continue the investigation into the deaths.
