B.C. Lottery Corp. directors are being replaced because they didn’t act on warnings about money laundering, Attorney General David Eby says.
Eby announced the change on his way into the legislature Wednesday, listing actions by the board that included increasing betting levels in casinos and disbanding a dedicated policing team that was assigned to casinos.
“The decisions that were made were not in the best interests of British Columbians, or public safety,” Eby said. “They were made in the best interests of gaming revenue, and I think that was a huge mistake, and it was made at the political level.”

Eby announced the change as he prepared for a meeting with Bill Blair, the federal minister of border security and organized crime reduction, about money laundering.
Eby appointed five new directors to the nine-member board in October 2019.
