Few details have been released about a tentative agreement between the B.C. Medical Association and the provincial government meant to increase patient access to doctors in rural areas.
Specific details of the four-year Physician Master Agreement will be available at the end of July pending ratification of the BCMA membership, the provincial government announced today.
The government says the agreement will also include improving access to family doctors, enhancing care for patients with chronic conditions and improving recruitment and retention of specialists in B.C.
The agreement will cover around 10,000 specialists and family doctors B.C.
Interior Health Authority is having a difficult time recruiting doctors to Princeton. The hospital emergency department is closed from midnight to 8 a.m. Monday to Thursday because there aren’t enough doctors to cover.
A public forum in Princeton on June 21 has been called to address the issue.
