Whissell Contracting is taking over as operator of the Bailey landfill in Chilliwack.
City council approved Request for Proposal from Whissell Contracting, for about $2.2 million per year, for the operation of the Bailey Sanitary Landfill and Compostable Waste Transfer station, but not including the Parr Road Green Depot.
Coun. Jason Lum noted that the current landfill operator had declined to bid on the new contract.
The response at the time, by director of engineering David Blain, was the the former operator had some questions regarding the guarantees of the contract, and that firm was doing less contract operation of landfills.
