Staff and friends of Parksville’s Forward House gathered to receive a $1,500 donation from the Parksville Scotiabank to Dr. Larry Smith’s fundraising efforts.
“Dr. Larry is a good friend,” said branch manager Penny Shantz explaining that he brought the fundraising to their attention and the bank’s staff and customers were very supportive, raising the money through a book sale.
A local chiropractor, Smith competed in the Penticton Ironman in August where he beat his previous time, finishing the 3.8 km swim, 180 km cycle and 42.2 km run in just over 14 hours.
Smith’s efforts have raised over $3,500 for the house, which Richardson said will go towards their recreation for wellness programs for things like bowling (a favourite) and expressive therapy including a writing circle, music program and current work on a radio play.
Forward House is a mental health support facility.
