Three Bayside Middle School students took it upon themselves to raise $5,000 for Cops for Cancer.
“I had said to them, if you surpass your goal, I’ll shave my head,” said principal Wendy MacDonald.
In 12 days, they raised $7,500, and MacDonald kept up her end of the deal.
“They are such an inspiration. I’m so moved,” she said. “I didn’t think they would have the capacity, but it’s pretty outstanding.”
The entire school aimed to raise $10,000 – double last year’s goal – and thanks to the efforts of the three students, Bayside was able to exceed their goal by more than $1,000.
The final tally: $11,067.51.
The students, Brianna Davies, Ellaina Coley and Adrianna Hilton, gave a speech to the school in which they said they were inspired by the many brave children that face cancer.
“Children deserve to be healthy and free of worry, but instead, some have been asked to fight an unimaginable battle,” said Coley.
Davies also addressed her classmates saying, “If it weren’t for our generous friends, families, neighbours and classmates, we would not be standing here today.”
