Kelset Elementary School students were full of energy Friday as two players from the B.C. Lions football team lead them in fun-filled activities encouraging them to go green.
The program is called the BC Lions FortisBC Energy Champions Program. It’s a province-wide initiative emphasizing the importance of responsible energy practices.
The program is done in 75 to 80 schools a year.
Principal of Kelset, Cathy Crocket-Moore said energy champions help inspire the elementary school students to take an active interest in their environment and make positive choices.

“It’s about reminding them for example wear a sweatshirt instead of turning the heat up,” said Crocket-Moore.
From the BC Lions were outside linebacker Jason Arakgi and wide receiver Stephen Adekolu.
“It’s basically just about how to live more sustainability, leave less of a footprint on our planet, (and) little things you can do at home or around the school that can help save energy,” said Arakgi.
Arakgi has been doing the program for eight years now.
“We do a lot of programs, but I only do this one because I have the most fun doing this one,” he said. “It’s very upbeat, it’s positive, it teaches the kids by making them interact with us and having fun and I find that’s a good way to get kids to learn.”
