Students in the Terrace area with a penchant for the outdoors and environmental stewardship can now apply for the BC Parks Student Ranger Program.

The program supports 12 crews of four student rangers across the province. Funded by provincial and federal governments, students work in B.C. parks and work on projects related to recreation, conservation, Indigenous relations and community outreach.

“Our spectacular park system provides exceptional recreational opportunities and plays a critical role in preserving ecology, celebrating culture and honouring history,” said George Heyman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, in a media release.

“The meaningful work completed each year by student rangers has a lasting impact on our parks and protected areas, and is an important part of renewing our BC Parks workforce and capacity.”

Terrace is set to host student rangers to work at Lakelse Lake Provincial Park, and an additional two-member crew could be located in Dease Lake.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old and must have been enrolled in full-time studies during the past year, and intend to return to school in the fall. Applications are open at https://bcparks.ca/employment/student-ranger/ until Feb. 21, 2021.
