BC Transit says they are experiencing services challenges in the Central Fraser Valley, stemming from a labour shortage.
The service provider sent out a press release Sept. 15 stating that they are actively recruiting transit operators across the province. Central Fraser Valley is considered Aldergrove, Abbotsford and Mission, but BC Transit has said that the shortages are affecting Hope and Chilliwack as well. It will also affect the Fraser Valley Express, which connects Abbotsford and Chilliwack.
“BC Transit is … working hard to hire more drivers as it is currently facing a labour shortage like many other customer-facing organizations,” they said.
Due to the shortage in drivers, a number of schedules have been impacted.
“The current impacts to service have resulted in the need to alter schedules on short notice to reflect changing conditions in the Central Fraser Valley Transit System,” they said. “BC Transit appreciates the patience of customers during this time, and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. The organization is working hard to rectify this issue and currently has a transit operator recruitment campaign underway. To learn more, visit https://workatfirst.com/.”
Alerts are being posted immediately on BC Transit’s website once trip cancellations are confirmed. The organization encourages customers to check for alerts regularly in the Central Fraser Valley.
