It’s about staying safe on the slopes and coming home safe.

That’s the message of BCAdventureSmart’s Ashley Berte who was on hand at SilverStar Mountain Resort Saturday, Jan. 5, to talk about safety.

“We are on the prevention side of search and rescue and we are talking to people today about our main message of the three T’s,” Berte said. “We’re encouraging people to always leave trip plans behind before you head out doing any activity. Always get the proper training, of course, season and sport specific. Always take essential gear, so stuff you can have with you every time you’re heading out so that you can help keep yourself warm and dry, fed and watered, be able to start a fire.”

Berte said that they hope through providing information and encouraging safety that they can mitigate the number and severity of calls received by local search and rescue groups.

“Just remember to get informed and go outdoors every time before you’re heading out,” Berte said. “That way you can keep yourself safe and hopefully come home at the end of every day.”
