Two of Ladymith’s own are bringing the music home this weekend.
David Bitonti and Emerald Specks (you may know her as Lena Birtwistle) are combining for a double bill Saturday at In The Beantime.
Bitonti was the lead singer and principal songwriter for the post-Grunge band Smart Bomb from 1999-2013. In late 2012, he rekindled an old love affair with the acoustic guitar and began writing a number of new songs that he is now sharing at pubs, bars, and cafes.
Vocalist and keyboard player Specks played with the local duo the Adamantines and the band Headless Bettys as well as solo work of her own.
Each artist will be showcasing work from recent recordings — Bitonti’s Caught In A Coma, with an expected release date of this spring 2015, and Specks’ No Sound, released last summer.
Neither plays their hometownn that often. According to the show’s promo material, each performer is promises their most fully-realized art to date.
“No Sound will move you to want more of the solace and soulful musical grace that is Emerald Specks as she stands on her own, at last, and prepares to offer the world her own sound,” it reads. “All of David’s songs are deeply personal portraits of his life and Coma showcases some of his most poignant material to date.”
The show is scheduled for April 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door or $25 dinner and show.
