A tribute to Enderby’s feathered friends could take flight.
Runaway Moon Theatre has proposed to the City of Enderby that light standards downtown be beautified along a bird theme.
“We would paint or decorate them to represent the birds that we have living here,” said Cathy Stubington, Runaway Moon’s artistic director.
“We would represent the cycle of the seasons.”
The goal would be to increase residents’ awareness of birds and the environment, while also providing an attraction for visitors to Enderby.
At this point, Enderby council has indicated interest in the project but not final approval.
“We need to see some more design details and what it will look like,” said Mayor Howie Cyr.
“We want to consult with downtown businesses and get input from them.”
The project would come at no cost to the city, and Cyr believes the bird theme would enhance current amenities such as the river walk which features bird houses.
“There are about 10 (light standards) planned and it would be an interesting walk for people,” he said.
“I am interested to see what Cathy comes up with.”
The light standards are part of a larger project by Runaway Moon to focus on the world around us and the natural calendar of the seasons.
“We’ve been doing a variety of projects about the birds that live here,” said Stubington.
There is no timeline yet for the light standards to be decorated.
“We hope to get started fairly soon,” said Stubington.
