Three trucks were destroyed by fire in Mission on Sunday afternoon.
On July 22, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Mission Fire Rescue Service received a call of a vehicle fire in the yard of Spitfire Transport (7057 Durieu St.).
Dark smoke could be seen rising into the sky as crews responded. Firefighters arrived on scene to discover three vehicles ablaze.
“The three tractor trailer units were all on fire,” said Mission’s assistant fire chief Blaine Odenbach. “There were three parked close together and the one in the middle, we think, caught fire and by the time we got there it had spread to the other two on either side.”
Odenbach said it took about an hour to put the blaze out. There were no injuries to the public – no one was in the trucks – and no injuries to any of the firefighters.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
“We are going to do an investigation later this afternoon (Monday) and see if we can figure out what it is, but it’s going to be pretty difficult as most everything has been consumed.”
All three vehicles are considered to be write-offs.
