Abbotsford fire crews had to walk to a remote area on Sunday night to get to a blaze in two large slash piles.
Reports of flames and smoke visible in the are of McKee Peak close to a communications tower came in at about 7:45 p.m.
Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service (AFRS) members attempted to get to the site with fire trucks via several different points on the mountain, with no success.
Once they got to the scene by foot, they came across the blaze in the middle of a land-clearing site.
The fire was contained to the piles, and AFRS remained on site to monitor the situation until conditions were safe.
As a precaution, the wildfire management branch was contacted and kept on standby.
By 11 p.m., conditions had improved enough for crews to leave the area.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but crews will be checking the site today to ensure the fires are out.
