An astute Block Watch member made sure a vehicle property thief had a bad Monday night.
The Block Watcher noticed a man breaking into vehicles in the 1300-block of Grant St. around 11:30 p.m. and called police.
Using a K9 dog, VicPD officers found the man hiding inside a vehicle halfway up the block. The arrest marked a first for rookie Const. Casey Jones, who was on his first night shift.
“Block Watch is about people knowing their neighbours and looking out for them,” said acting co-ordinator Kimberly Kelley. “This call shows that Block Watch members care about their neighbourhoods and take action when needed.”
A 44-year-old man faces assault, uttering threats and theft under $5,000 charges from previous incidents, as well as theft under $5,000 and trespassing at night charges for Monday night’s incident.
