Who knew an election could be so challenging.
It took three votes before the North Okanagan-Columbia-Shuswap Regional Hospital District board elected a chairperson at its Wednesday meeting.
“I didn’t realize this would be so stressful,” said Charles Hamilton, administrator, who oversaw the process.
Complications began when director Nancy Cooper was nominated to run against long-time chairperson Rhona Martin. The first vote resulted in a tie as there were 16 directors present at the time.
A second round of ballots led to another tie being recorded.
And while a coin toss would traditionally be the next step to determine a victor, it was decided to hold a third vote because two late directors arrived on scene.
In the end, Martin rose to the top as chairperson.
“It was a hard fought battle,” joked Martin.
Patrick Nicol was acclaimed to another term as vice-chairperson.
