One body has been discovered inside a burnt building on the 30800-block of Gunn Ave. in Mission.
According to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) official Twitter account, the fire is suspicious and investigators have located one body so far. The body has not been identified at this time.
The fire occurred early Saturday morning.
RCMP and Mission Fire Rescue Service investigators were on scene Saturday and were treating the fire as “suspicious.”
Mission’s assistant fire chief, Ian Glasgow said firefighters responded to reports of the fire at around 2 a.m. on Aug. 8.
“The fire’s extinguished. Firefighters are sticking around for fire investigations and putting out hot spots,” Glasgow said on Saturday. “We don’t have much information at this point, we’re just conferring with the RCMP about next steps.”
The entrance to the rural property was cordoned off with police vehicles, and no clear fire damage was noticeable from the street.
The RCMP’s IHIT were called in and began their investigation.
More information is expected later today (Monday, Aug. 10).
