Body of missing boater found

Search for Terrace man whose boat capsized in a lake near Stewart has been ongoing since Sept. 7

The body of a Terrace man whose boat capsized in a lake off of Hwy37 North earlier this week has been recovered.

An RCMP dive team located the body of Justin Dasilva, 23, around noon yesterday, Sept. 10, in the area police and a search and rescue team had been searching for nearly four days, confirmed RCMP this morning.

From Terrace, he had been living in Stewart at the time of the accident.

Two men, who went out hunting the morning of Sept. 7 about 80 km north of Meziadin Lake just shy of Bell 2 along Hwy37 North, had their canoe capsized while trying to cross Oweegee Lake.

One man made it to shore but the other did not, said Dave Jephson of Terrace Search and Rescue, Sept. 9.

Terrace Search and Rescue were contacted the night of the accident by Stewart RCMP, who requested assistance to search for the missing man, said Jephson, and spent three days using underwater cameras and sonars in murky water to try to locate the man.

The case is now in the hands of the BC Coroner Service.
