Residents of Carroll Street in Victoria had to watch the Canucks’ final game elsewhere when they were evacuated Wednesday afternoon.
At 4:30 p.m., Victoria police’s emergency response team executed a search warrant on a house in the 3100-block of Carroll, near Burnside Road. En route, they received information there might be explosives inside the house.
Const. Mike Russell gave few details about the operation, saying only that two residents of the house were taken into custody.
VicPD bomb technicians were called in to examine the residence and at midnight, the RCMP’s bomb squad flew over.
“They held off until (Thursday) morning, until there was proper lighting,” Russell said of the bomb squad.
Whether explosives were found, “It’s too early to say.”
“I just want to say how much we apologize to the folks we had to evacuate, and (to) the fire department and ambulance that were on scene during the game while we did that,” Russell said. “We wanted to make sure everyone was safe.”
