Teachers, parents and students arrived to an unsavory sight at West Heights Community Elementary School in Mission on Tuesday morning.
The school had been covered in graffiti including curse words, a giant phallic image and what appeared to be a bomb threat.
“Basically, the school was vandalized over the weekend and one of the messages said something to the effect of “Boom, the bomb will go off” or something like that,” explained school superintendent Angus Wilson.
“It was not deemed as a credible threat because the building itself was totally secure, alarm was on, no windows broken etc.”
The Mission RCMP was called in to check the scene, but nothing has been discovered.
Parents have been notified about the incident, and that the threat has been deemed as false and the school has not been closed.
“But, people hear the bomb threat thing and some children have gone home, that is their right, but there is no viable threat,” said Wilson.
“The thing is, from a technical violent incident protocol, if you are going to do violence you tend not to extrapolate it out and telegraph it with a ‘hey I’m gonna do this thing.'”
School crews are now cleaning up the graffiti, which Wilson says there was “a lot” of.
According to Wilson Mission Central was also struck by vandals, which he said is unfortunate because the clean up process costs the district more money.
