Boot launches campaign with Facebook Live event

NDP candidate for riding of Penticton joined by John Horgan, Richard Cannings and others

New Democratic Party leader John Horgan showed his support for candidate Toni Boot during her Monday evening Facebook Live event.

Boot is the party’s candidate for the riding of Penticton. The provincial election will be held on Oct. 24.

The event, to kick off Boot’s campaign, was an online forum which also included some “Zoom crashers” including Horgan.

“These are challenging times for everybody, but it makes it easier for British Columbians if they know they have a government that is in their corner, not a government focused on taking away the gains we’ve made on childcare, education and in our public health care system,” Horgan said.

“Now is not the time to cut services people rely upon” Boot said. “We know that the B.C. Liberals proposals are geared for the people at the top, but the B.C. NDP solutions are going to help everyone in our communities.”

Katrine Conroy, who, prior to the election was the Minister of Children and Families, also joined the event to show her support of Boot.

“In our community not only do we need more spaces but we need to continue the work that has been done to attract more people to work in early childhood education, fund an additional 820 training spots, boost wages, and give out over 8,000 bursaries for students pursuing it as a career in childcare.”

Boot was also joined by Richard Cannings, the New Democrat Member of Parliament for the federal riding of South Okanagan-West Kootenay; B.C. Federation of Labour executive, Sussanne Skidmore and Joan Phillip of Penticton Indian Band.

Boot’s campaign office is at 221 Martin St., Penticton. She is running against Liberal candidate Dan Ashton and Libertarian candidate Keith MacIntyre.
