Cumberland’s second cannabis shop has been granted a Temporary Use Permit, but as for when the two businesses can open their doors, that is still up to the province.
At their April 8 meeting, Cumberland council issued a temporary use permit to Beaufort Botanicals at 2703 Dunsmuir Avenue. The TUP will be valid for three years with the option to renew for another three years.
The application will be sent back to the Provincial Liquor and Cannabis branch who must provide a cannabis retail store licence before the Village can provide a business licence.
“It’s all administrative and when we hear back from them, we’re in a position to check off another box that gets them that much closer to opening,” said manager of development services, Ken Rogers.
Trugreen Solutions at 3276 Third St., which was issued a TUP in February, is already in line to receive a licence from the province.
Rogers says the Village has no estimate on how long this step will take, but in the meantime, Heritage Alteration Permits for both locations are expected to be brought forward to council in May.
