Around mid-day Tuesday, Ladysmith Secondary School evacuated students and staff after a ‘gas smell’ was reported.

Students were evacuated to the LSS field, but due to heavy rain were moved into the gymnasium at Frank Jameson Community Centre.

Ladysmith Fire Rescue responded, and deemed the situation all clear. There is no evidence of a gas leak, and it is not clear at this time what caused the gas smell.

“They’re back in the school now. The principal is checking in on the students to make sure everything is okay. Other than that, everything is fine,” SD68 executive director of communications Dale Burgos said.

SD68 is currently investigating the situation.
