Residents of a north Surrey neighbourhood came out of their homes Tuesday morning (Dec. 10) to see their streets flooded.
A water main in the area of 132nd Street and 95A Avenue broke earlier in the morning, around 5:30 a.m., said resident Sukhjinder Gill.
Crews arrived on scene around 7 a.m. and the flooding was cleared between 8:30 and 9 a.m., Gill said. By mid-afternoon, the water had subsided, leaving the area a soppy mess. She said the water was up to her knees when she got outside.
Inside of her home, there was mud “stuck everywhere on the floor.”

Along 95A Avenue, just east of 132nd Street, several new homes were under construction, leaving a mess of soggy dirt and mud on the streets.
“It’s really sad for us,” Gill said. “It’s hard to clean inside because there’s lot of mud inside.”
Surrey Traffic has tweeted that city crews are working in the northbound and eastbound curb lanes at 96th Avenue and 132nd Street to repair the water main.
Crews are expected to continue working through the afternoon rush hour.
Traffic was heavily backed up in the area.
Drivers are being asked to plan ahead accordingly and avoid the area.
