100 Mile House Fire Rescue is responding to a large amount of smoke visible just south of 100 Mile House on Horse Lake Road.
“The property owners were doing some yard clean up and the wind picked up and threw some embers onto the grass and lit the grass on fire,” said Brandon Bougie, deputy chief. “They did a good job with the machinery to extinguish it. When we showed up they pretty much had it dealt with.”
Fire Rescue is now just taking care of hot spots.
Bougie estimated the fire as a rank 2 of approximately 50 by 200 feet.
The incident is roughly across from Findlay Meats.
“In general, usually this time of year we have snow on the ground so it’s fairly safe to do burning but just a reminder to be aware of wind conditions as well as how dry it is,” said Bougie.
