A Burnaby man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to the fatal stabbing of a woman in South Vancouver earlier this month.
The B.C. Prosecution Service approved the charge against 29-year-old Eric Lau on Monday (April 15). He’s accused of killing 49-year-old Gertrude Cheong, who the Vancouver Police Department says Lau knew.
Cheong was found by officers lying on Rosemont Drive, just north of Fraserview Golf Course, at about 6 a.m. on April 3. Police were called to the scene after people reported hearing screams and seeing a person in the street.
Cheong had been fatally stabbed and died at the scene.
Lau is set to appear at the Vancouver Provincial Court on May 6.
