DELTA — Eliza Olson is receiving an honorary degree for her tireless work protecting Delta’s Burns Bog.
The first and only president of the long-established Burns Bog Conservation Society, Olson will receive her honorary Kwantlen Polytechnic University degree during fall convocation on Oct. 9 in Surrey.
Dr. Alan Davis, president and vice-chancellor of KPU, says Olson represents the very best in sustained and dedicated service to the region.
“She has persistently stood up to protect Burns Bog and the region’s wetlands from further encroachment,” Davis said, adding Olson frequently engages with students in KPU’s environmental protection technology program.
Olson said she was thrilled to hear the good news and that it it took days for it to sink in.
“Not bad for a little kid from Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, right?” she said, laughing.
