Business notes: Duncan’s Business Showcase becomes Business Expo

Exhibitor registrations now open for Business Expo & Community Social presented by Island Savings.

We’re now about a month away from what will be one of the biggest business events of the year.

Exhibitor registrations are now open for 2019 Business Expo & Community Social presented by Island Savings.

The Expo will be a celebration of Chamber Week and is sponsored by Island Savings and the Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce. The 2019 Business Expo and Community Social will be held at the Ramada Hotel & Conference Centre on Wednesday, Feb. 20 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“This event was previously held in October and was known as Business Showcase,” explains Sonja Nagel, executive director of the Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce.

“We will be jumping into spring with a new format aimed at providing retailers, solopreneurs and home-based businesses with the opportunity to showcase and sell their goods and services to the Cowichan Community.”

Exhibitor tables are only $75 and there are a limited number of spaces available.

“It’s a good idea to register early so you don’t miss out,” Nagel adds.

Our friend, Chad Conrad and his staff at Mr. Mikes on Beverly Street are part of the Mr. Mikes sixth annual Deeds Well Done Program.

Calling on restaurant guests across the country to nominate charities that make their community a better place, Deeds Well Done collected more than 1,900 nominations from Nov. 19 to Dec. 31, 2018. All winning charities will receive community-wide recognition, a Mr. Mikes gift card to enjoy a group dinner at their local Mr. Mikes SteakhouseCasual location and $500 to further support their cause.

Since the initiative’s inception in 2012, Deeds Well Done has cumulatively donated more than $80,000 to more than 250 charities throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario, directly supporting the causes that matter most to Canadians. Winning charities are determined based on the impact they have on the community and their willingness to go above and beyond for those most vulnerable and in need. As part of the initiative, guests who nominate a charity will receive a $25 Mr. Mikes gift certificate to thank them for their involvement.

“We continue to be blown away by the care and compassion shown by our guests, staff, and charitable organizations in the communities we operate in across Canada,” said Robin Chakrabarti, president, Mr. Mikes SteakhouseCasual.

“Deeds Well Done provides us with an opportunity to recognize and give back to the people and organizations that make our communities a better place. Deeds Well Done expands into new communities every year, and it is incredible to see this initiative grow and have an even greater impact.”
