The partnership between RCMP and City of Vernon bylaw compliance continues to provide value.

On three separate occasions, bylaw compliance officers have been able to direct the RCMP to individuals suspected in two separate robbery/assaults, and to an individual in breach of court conditions, allowing for their arrests to occur.

“These incidents are a result of the great cooperation and partnership our two agencies have,” said Clint Kanester, manager of bylaw compliance.

One bylaw officer working a night shift noted an individual matching the general description of a person sought in connection with a robbery/assault at a business in Vernon earlier in the evening.

The officer observed the individual as he went into a home and had another bylaw officer stand by to monitor the property while he located an RCMP officer who was investigating the crime.

The RCMP officer was led to the home where the individual was arrested.

Two bylaw officers patrolling the 25th Avenue linear park noted a person matching the description of a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery. RCMP members were called but the suspect had left the area.

Shortly thereafter, the bylaw officers again noted the individual near the Happy Days convenience store and alerted RCMP who arrested the individual.

In the last incident, two bylaw officers noticed an individual downtown who was wanted in connection with a breach of court conditions. The officers engaged him until RCMP arrived and conducted an arrest.
