A Bluebird cab driver was sent to hospital after he hit a median on Esquimalt Road early Saturday morning, shearing off a caution pole, knocking down a tree and flipping the car onto its roof.
According to VicPD, police attended the scene just before 3 a.m. where they say they found the taxi on its roof having crashed into other parked cars as well as trees.
A witness who lives nearby said the taxi was travelling west on Esquimalt Road when the driver hit the median.
BC Ambulance Service said two people were transported to hospital with minor injuries. They could not confirm if the second person was a passenger of the taxi or a bystander.
Police are still investigating but said speed appears to be a contributing factor.
“The driver was released from the hospital this morning,” said Kristin Jones of Bluebird Cabs Ltd. “He just needed a few stitches. He was really lucky.”
A Bluebird Cabs Ltd. business card could be seen amongst bits of broken glass at the scene later Saturday morning. The median was strewn with broken pieces of the car.
A witness on scene just after the crash said the tree that was knocked down on the median had the branches on one side sheared off, and suspects that contributed to the car flipping.
