The Canadian Federation of University Women Parksville Qualicum (CFUWPQ) club will sponsor a discussion panel via Zoom about the subject of domestic violence and its rise since the pandemic. The discussion will be on Sunday, Nov. 29, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The aim of the presentation is to raise awareness of domestic violence in our commnunity and to ask how the community might help.

The panel consists of six experts: Dawn Clark and Toni Wheeler of the Haven Society; Dr. Paddy Mark, a drug and alcohol physician; Dave Arnell, a representative from Nanaimo and Area Resource Srvices for Families; Const. Tara Guellett, RCMP Oceanside Domestic Violence Investigator; and Bonnie Wallis, who has lived experience with domestive violence.
Some of the topics being discussed will be about the history and operation of Haven Society, the role played by substance abuse in the onset and escalation of violence, the role of police involvement in addressing domestic violence and the impact of the pandemic.
