Nominations for the municipal election have come to a close, and the candidates for town council, mayor, Area A, and the school district have been announced.
At the end of July, Town of Golden nomination packages became available for pickup. Mayor Ron Oszust was first to pick up his package from town hall, and was the only candidate to put his name in as Golden’s mayor for the next four years.
The nomination packages were due back by September 14, and seven people have put their names in as candidates for town council. Caleb Moss, Leslie Adams, Chris Hambruch, Connie Barlow, and Eddie Leigan sat on council for the last four years, and John Manuel and Jim de Bolebec have put their names in this year as well.
The Town of Golden residents will vote in six councillors this year.
In the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD), Karen Cathcart is the only person with her name in to run for Electoral Area A director. Once again, she will lead Golden’s rural area through another four year term.
For the Town of Golden and Electoral Area A, three candidates have put their names in for School District No. 6. Jane Fearing, Scott King, and Rhonda Smith will run for School District No. 6 trustee.
The first opportunity to turn in nomination packages at the Town of Golden was on September 4. From then, candidates had 10 days to submit their packages.
At the Town, officials are expected to serve a full four-year term if they are elected. The term officially begins after the elections on November 6.
The campaign period officially begins on September 22, and runs until general voting day on October 20. The advance voting opportunity is on October 10, and the declaration of official results will be announced on October 24.
