Canine cop takes impaired driver off Esquimalt streets

Driver loses vehicle after blowing a warn on a roadside breath test

A suspicious vehicle parked near the Esquimalt Lion’s baseball park early Monday morning caught the attention of a Victoria police dog handler out on patrol.

The vehicle was parked, but was then spotted slowly pulling away around 1:30 a.m., Victoria police Deputy Chief John Ducker said on the department’s operations blog.

The officer pulled the vehicle over at Lampson and Transfer streets, and the driver subsequently blew a ‘warn’ on a roadside breathalyzer test.

The vehicle was impounded, and the man, who was prohibited from driving, told police he planned to walk to his girlfriend’s residence nearby.
