Mother Nature provided the perfect weather and Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park the perfect venue for Pooch Partners’ third annual Doggie Duathlon held on Aug. 9.

Enthusiastic canine participants of all breeds, sizes and ages, with their human companions, completed their choice of a two-, five- or 8.5-km walk/run route followed by a 25/50 metre swim.

This annual non-competitive event’s goal is to promote an active and healthy lifestyle for people with their dogs, and is also a fundraiser to help support local animal charities, with this year’s recipient being The Road Home Rescue and Safekeeping Society.

Ensuring adequate daily exercise is key to having a happy and healthy dog, and this event is just one of many activities Pooch Partners offers to help address the issue of pet obesity which affects more than 50 per cent of pets across North America.

“The success of this event is due to our sponsors who every year have been extremely generous, and of course the amazing participants. The canine and human participants always show up ready to have fun and this year was no exception,” said Shelly Korobanik, owner of Pooch Partners.

Sponsors of the event were Sun FM, Pet Planet, Village Green Hotel, Healthy Spot, AJ’s Pets & Things, Walmart, Vernon Butcher Shop, Stussi Sport,  Kiss the Monkey Photography, Road ID and  John Deak – Century 21.

Pooch Partners hosts this annual event on the second Sunday of August every year, so be sure to mark your calendars for the fourth annual Doggie Duathlon scheduled for Sunday, Aug  9, 2015 and check out other Pooch Partners’ events and activities at www.poochpartners.ca.
