Nanaimo RCMP are investigating after emergency crews arrived at the site of a car crash with no driver at the scene.
Crews were called out at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to Departure Bay Road at Merry Men Way, where a car had crashed into a utility pole.
Vilvir Dodd, who witnessed the crash, said the driver jumped out of the car, grabbed something from inside the vehicle and hopped into another vehicle that was following, which drove off.
“I asked him if he was all right and then this other car slowed down,” Dodd said. “I thought it was a Good Samaritan stopping to help and then he grabbed something in the car, jumped in the other one and they took off.”
Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien said in an e-mail that the vehicle was not stolen and investigators don’t yet know why the driver left the scene.
