A driver whose car hit a guard rail and flipped 100 feet down the road on Monday fled the scene and was tracked down a few hours later.

Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said the man was driving a BMW north on Whatcom Road near Westview Boulevard at about 11:20 a.m., when he hit the guard rail.

The car flipped and landed on its wheels, deploying the air bags, but the driver fled before police and ambulance crews arrived. No other vehicles were involved.

MacDonald said police tried to find the man, but he wasn’t located until several hours later when he was taken to hospital by ambulance.

He said he did not know who called paramedics and what kind of injuries the man sustained.
