Career education day in Kelowna

Young people in Kelowna are invited to discover the skills they will need for tomorrow’s in-demand occupations, and engage in a direct conversations with local employers and post-secondary schools at WorkBC’s Career Education Day.

Career Education Day will be at Mt. Boucherie Secondary, on Thursday, Feb. 9.

“B.C. is the nationwide leader in job creation, and we need more skilled workers to keep pace with our growing and diverse economy,” Premier Christy Clark, MLA for Westside-Kelowna.

“Through B.C.’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint, and programs like Career Education Day, we are fully engaged in providing the next generation with the tools and resources they’ll need so that all regions share in B.C.’s prosperity.”

Career Education Day is a day where students in grades 10 to 12 can explore, experience and learn about a variety of careers through hands-on programs, business experts, post-secondary institutions and more. This one-day event is a chance for high school students nearing graduation to learn about upcoming career opportunities available in Kelowna and the surrounding area.

Parents, teachers and career counsellors may benefit, too — by discovering ways to educate and support youth in their career exploration.

The Find Your Fit portion of the event will be open to the public from 3:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Find Your Fit is part of B.C.’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint commitment to re-engineer education and deliver the skilled workforce needed in B.C.’s growing economy. The tour has had more than 200, 000 participants so far, and was most recently in Merritt.
