As of the beginning of August, almost 350 wildfires in B.C. has been caused by people.
A campfire is an open fire that burns piled material no larger than 0.5 m in height and 0.5 m in width and is used by any person for recreational purpose, or by a First Nation for a ceremonial purpose.
Poorly managed and abandoned campfires result in numerous wildfires each year.
Campfire bans remain in place for most of the province. The Fort Nelson Fire District and Peace Forest District are the only areas in B.C. where campfires are currently permitted, although the remainder of the Prince George Fire Centre is still under a campfire ban.
