Advantage Living’s Cariboo Place has been sold to an Alberta firm, Mayor Walt Cobb announced at the end of the Tuesday, May 25, regular council meeting.
“The firm that is buying it is actually a group of doctors,” Cobb said, adding it is anticipated the new owners will take over by the fall of 2021. “We will see what happens there. It is what it is. It’s private industry.”
Cobb said the firm that bought it owns a huge number of facilities.
The long-term residential facility has 72 beds of which 70 are publicly funded and two are private.
It opened in 2019 under Vantage Living.

Vantage Living president Melanie Reinhardt confirmed the sale Wednesday May 26, noting in addition to Cariboo Place, the company also sold its Brandt Creek Mews, Monashee Mews and Mount Ida Mews to Aster Joint Venture Limited Partnership.
“Closing is anticipated on or about August 1, 2021, pending Interior Health Authority, licensing and lender approvals,” she noted in an email to the Tribune. “AgeCare, a partner in Aster, will operate all four long-term care sites.”
AgeCare is Canadian-owned and operates long-term care and seniors living in both Alberta and B.C.
Reinhardt said Vantage expects very little change with respect to the operation of the long-term care homes, including staffing and AgeCare has already provided employment offer letters to our team at Cariboo Place.
“The Vantage team will continue to support residents and their families through the transition to ensure any changes are clear and simple, questions are answered, and care needs are fully met,” she added.
Vantage Living will continue to run its other assisted living and independent living sites namely Chateau Three Hills in Three Hills, Alberta, Kiwanis Manor in West Vancouver, Lakeside Manor in Salmon Arm and Maeford Place in Quesnel.
