Castaway Wanderers and Oak Bay firefighters chip trees for charity

Post-Christmas tree chipping done two ways in Oak Bay

  • Dec. 11, 2016 8:00 a.m.

Castaway Wanderers and the Oak Bay firefighters again offer a pair of ways to get rid of real Christmas trees this season.

Castaway Wanderers RFC has tentative plans to chip trees at Windsor Park on Dec. 27 from noon to 4 p.m., Dec. 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 pm., Jan. 1 from noon to 4 p.m. and Jan 2, 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The annual service raises funds by-donation to run their programs for those aged 8 to 80.

Oak Bay Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation plans to chip trees adjacent to the Monterey Avenue fire hall Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The foundation raised $3,900 during last year’s two-day, by-donation chipping event.

The charitable foundation funds programs at each of the schools in Oak Bay, including bursaries for students at Oak Bay High, and has previously funded programs that benefit the community such as Oak Bay Emergency Program and Oak Bay Sea Rescue Society.

Shredding is done by Bartlett Tree Experts which donates time for both events.
