Castlegar doctors’ offices remain open for phone, video and in-person appointments

Doctors concerned people may be neglecting health concerns for fear of catching the COVID-19

Castlegar’s doctors are still hard at work and want the community to know that they are still there for them.

Dr. David Larocque and other doctors across the Kootenays have expressed concern that people may be neglecting non-COVID related health concerns for fear of catching the virus.

Local offices are still open and doctors are adapting to COVID challenges by consulting with patients by phone, video conferencing and arranging safe face-to-face appointments when necessary.

If you have a new health concern or need follow-up treatment for existing or ongoing health concerns, your local doctor wants you to call them.

Dr. Larocque says that should be the first step for any concerns — call your local clinic and get advice on how to proceed.

As for COVID-19, local doctors are asking everyone to follow these guidelines:

• Stay home unless absolutely necessary — this means no dinner parties, no sports (even outside), no play dates, no gatherings of any kind.

• Stay connected with your family and friends online. Use Skype, Messenger or Facetime.

• Keep two meters apart from everyone if you must go out. That’s about two arms lengths. If you are walking outside or at a park or at the grocery store you must keep this distance to be safe.

• Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, use hand sanitizer if you have any. Avoid touching your face with your hands.

• Tell everyone to do the same.
